Seattle Sea-Tac to expand

4-Feb-2003

The Port of Seattle is to offer leases for 10 local retailers and restaurateurs in the airport's new Pacific Marketplace, to be located in the airport's renovated central terminal

The authority hopes that the Marketplace, scheduled to open early 2005, will reflect the character of the region. Chair of the Port of Seattle Commission Patricia Davis said: "We want Sea-Tac to have a flavour of the north-west [USA]. We will certainly have the traditional large airport vendors that you see in many cities. But we also want to have a mix of locally-owned businesses."

The authority is encouraging applications from both large and small business, and will issue concessions across all categories, including food and beverages, books, cosmetics, speciality gifts and branded clothing.

Meanwhile, Hudson Group will operate a further 22 shops at the airport under a 10-year lease. The shops are also due to open in 2005, and Hudson Group claimed that the port would see a significant increase in income from the deal.
