Schiphol enters commercial agreement with Aruba airport
The Dutch group aims to grow non-aeronautical revenues and enhance airport facilities at the thriving Caribbean tourist destination
Aruba Airport Authority and Schiphol Group have entered into a partnership to boost commercial activities and operations at Aruba Queen Beatrix airport in the Netherlands Antilles. Schiphol International, the division responsible for international activities at Schiphol Group, has signed a strategic partnership agreement that will apply until the end of 2007. The agreement could be extended after that.
A statement from both parties said: "Schiphol Group's support will focus largely on making maximum use of the airport's commercial potential, thereby enabling it to play a more significant role in the island's economy. Schiphol Group specialists will assist the airport in developing into one of the leading airports in the Caribbean. The island is already one of the most popular holiday destinations in the region. Excellent airport facilities can further boost tourist and business traffic."
In 2003 Aruba airport handled 1.5m passengers, 120,000 of which flew to or from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
