The Dutch group will advise the Chinese airport on the operational management of retail and food and beverage operations

Dutch airports company Schiphol Group has signed a two-year contract to develop commercial activities at Guangzhou Baiyun International airport. A company statement said Schiphol Group will advise the airport in the operational management of its retail and food and beverage activities. One of its employees will work in Guangzhou for the duration of the contract, which can be extended.

Schiphol Group CFO Pieter Verboom said: "With this collaboration we set foot on Chinese soil. It is a first step in marketing our AirportCity formula in China and opens new opportunities for the development of others areas of the AirportCity concept, for example the areas of cargo and real estate.”

Guangzhou Baiyun airport is mainland China’s second largest in terms of passenger numbers and operates flights to 142 domestic and international destinations. In 2007, the airport recorded 30m passengers, and this figure is expected to rise to 40m in 2010 and 60m by 2015.
