Sakal Brothers wins Ben Gurion contract

10-Jan-2004

The incumbent electronics retailer has retained its concession as Tel Aviv airport prepares to move international passengers to a new facility

Sakal Brothers has shrugged off its defeat by rival James Richardson in the principal tender for duty-free at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion airport's new international terminal to take the valuable electronics concession. The company, which operates the electronics outlet in the existing international terminal, is understood to have bid $11.5m for the eight-year contract.

Electronics is particularly important at Ben Gurion, where the unique pick-up system encourages locals to order even large household appliances to collect on their return to the country. Speaking exclusively to TRW sister publication DFNI, Sakal Brothers parent company Sakal Group president Meir Sakal said the company aims to finalise plans for the outlet by the end of February.

See DFNI January 15, out next week, for more on Sakal Brothers' plans.
