Saigontourist stores to reopen
31-May-2003
Vietnam's government has given the go-ahead for two duty free stores managed by Saigontourist Import-Export Company to resume trading
The stores, in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, were closed late last year after the country's General Department of Customs had voiced suspicions that goods from the stores were making their way onto local markets.
After considering evidence from the ministry of planning and investment, the finance ministry, and people's committees in the two cities, the government issued a document declaring its satisfaction with procedures at the stores, and allowing them to reopen. Company director Tran Huu Phuoc welcomed the decision, declaring that the document showed that the allegations had been "groundless".
