Italian luxury goods maker Gucci Group announced today that its Yves Saint Laurent division had agreed with Italy's Safilo to develop and distribute Yves Saint Laurent-branded eyewear. The agreement will continue until 2007, Gucci said in a statement.

"The first collection of Yves Saint Laurent men and women eyewear, developed under Tom Ford's direction, will soon be ready for worldwide launch," said Gucci.

Gucci acquired Yves Saint Laurent in 1999. Safilo already holds the eyewear licences for Gucci, Polo Ralph Lauren, Christian Dior, Valentino, Burberry, Diesel and markets its own Smith and Carrera brands.
