SAS returns to Arlanda as international extension opens

Stockholm Arlanda airport's Central Terminal opened today with stores from The Nuance Group and SAS Trading enhancing the airport's offer to international passengers. The opening is particularly important to SAS Trading's business, marking the return of its Euroshop brand to the international terminal of its home city's airport.
SAS Trading area manager Annelie Nasen told TRW the four Euroshop stores ? Fashion, Shirt & Tie, Kids and a Sand boutique ? were a crucial gain. She revealed that the decision was made when SAS Trading approached Swedish airport authority Luftfartsverket after it heard of plans for the extension to its international facility.
"The new stores are important to our business as we have not had a store in that facility since 2002," said Nasen. "Although these types of stores are not as high-volume as general duty-free outlets, they are in good locations and the authority is predicting over 9m passengers each year." SAS Trading still operates one store in the domestic terminal.
The Nuance Group, Aarlanda's principal duty-free retailer, has opened stores for fragrances and cosmetics, liquor and tobacco in the new area. Both Nuance's and SAS Trading's contracts are for five years.
Retail at the Central Terminal is managed by Luftfartsverket and Schiphol Group after an agreement signed last month (TRW November 26). The area is part of Arlanda's North Terminal, which serves nearly all the airport's international passengers.
