Retail boost aids Auckland profit growth

5-Mar-2003

Auckland International Airport Ltd has announced a 13.1% increase in profit, to A$39.7m ($24m) for the second half of 2002

The authority said that retail revenue of A$39.5m ($23.9m), up 32.5% on the previous six months, was a key feature in the airport's growth.

Said managing director John Goulter: "Last year, this same period was adversely affected by the horrendous events of September 11. New Zealand's somewhat isolated geographic location proved beneficial, both in minimising the negative impact and also providing a quicker recovery for New Zealand, ahead of many other international destinations."

International passenger movements, including the transit and transfer traffic, amounted to 2.7m, an increase of 7.3%.
