Remy Cointreau bar is cancelled at TFWE
The Remy Cointreau Group has cancelled the popular Remy Cointreau Bar at this year's TFWA World Exhibition. The Bar was due to have been held from Sunday 21 October to Thursday 25 October 2001.
The company decided that the chosen theme was inappropriate, bearing in mind the September 11 terrorist atrocities in the US and subsequent knock-on effects.
Huub van Doorne, member of the Executive Board of Remy Cointreau, said : ?The reason d?être of our brands is to be associated to happy moments in life. The success of the Remy Cointreau Bar in Cannes is the epitome of linking our brands with the party mood. When life is plagued with adverse circumstances, we feel it only fitting, in our own way, to show sympathy and respect.
"Costs devoted to this event which will not have been used to cover cancellation fees from our suppliers and partners will be donated to appropriate charitable organizations.?
The company remains fully committed to the TFWA World show 2001 and will exhibit in full force on the Maxxium stand.
Comment: The decision, difficult as it must have been for Remy Cointreau, is the right one. World events-and sensitivity to them-are at such a critical stage now that the most acute taste, judgement and sensitivity must be shown in all areas of life and business. Cannes will be a more sombre event without the highly popular Remy Cointreau bar but that is no bad thing. This year's show, rightly, will be all about business and partnership, with less emphasis on celebration. We applaud the decision and the wider conscience the company has displayed in reaching it.
