Sales at Regency Duty Free fall by 20% since foiled terror plot

New Zealand travel retailer Regency Duty Free has recorded lost sales of NZ$500,000 ($318,470) since the security alert at London Heathrow airport last month.

Regency Duty Free managing director Kelvin Ricketts told local press that sales from Air New Zealand's customers have fallen by 20% since UK- and US-bound passengers were banned from carrying hand luggage and liquids or gels onto flights. He expects losses to rise to NZ$700,000 ($445,860) by the end of September.

Air New Zealand lifted the ban on hand luggage and liquids on September 4, following the introduction of a gate delivery service at Auckland International airport, where The Nuance Group subsidiary Regency Duty Free operates.
