The Slovenian-German joint venture will begin business at Podgorica and Tivat airports in the coming months

Regal GH, the joint venture between Slovenian operator Regal and Gebr Heinemann, has won the contract to operate duty-free shops at Montenegro's Podgorica and Tivat airports.

Regal GH general manager Jose Brodnik told RavenFox.com: "The shop at Podgorica should be operational by March 31, with Tivat open by the end of May. They are small shops, 75sq m (800sq ft) each, and we'll offer a core duty-free assortment in each."

Brodnik said that Podgorica serviced mostly business traffic, much of it to Belgrade, while Tivat handles mainly charter flights from around Europe.

"We are confident we can generate high levels of sales," said Brodnik.

Montenegrins will vote in a referendum in May on their independence from Serbia, which could lead to full autonomy later this year.

Regal GH also operates three stores at Ljubljana airport in Slovenia. The company's contract has been extended by five years to 2011, said Brodnik. Regal GH took over the contract in June 2001.
