The Russian retailer expands its operations beyond Sheremetyevo

Russian retailer RegStaer is to open its first store at Vnukovo International airport in August. The company, which already runs two stores at Sheremetyevo airport, plans to include a luxury accessories offer alongside traditional duty-free products at the new outlet. Gebr.Heinemann will be the exclusive supplier for main categories of products for Vnukovo as it is for Sheremetyevo airport stores.

RegStaer anticipates that the new store will be about 360sq m (3,873sq ft), and hopes to introduce products from Montblanc, Swarovski and Swatch at the outlet. The company will compete with an outlet operated by Aer Rianta International (through a supply and management contract with local firm Rex Trading) which was opened in October 2004.

"We are happy with the performance of our stores at Sheremetyevo," RegStaer commercial director Vadim Sagiev told DFNI. "The only limitation was space, so we are happy to open at a new airport."

Vnukovo's new terminal opened in April 2004, with a capacity for 4m passengers annually. Currently traffic is limited to fifteen daily flights, serving mainly the CIS and tourist destinations such as Turkey and Egypt. However, the airport authority has plans to attract airlines and anticipates more carriers will start services to Vnukovo this summer.
