Record year for Dubai Duty Free

With sales for the last quarter setting new monthly records, Dubai Duty Free finished the year at an all time high with annual turnover in excess of Dhs800m ($220m), representing a 17% increase on 1999.

As forecast, the month of December recorded the highest ever monthly sales reaching Dhs76.6m ($20.9m). On 21st December a new daily record was set when shop floor sales reached almost $1m (Dhs3.6m).

Commenting on the results, Dubai Duty Free managing director Colm McLoughlin said: "This has been an historic year for Dubai Duty Free which celebrated 17 years of operation in December 2000. In April we opened the new shopfloor complex in Sheikh Rashid Terminal and the operation has proved to be a great success in terms of providing passengers with an enhanced shopping experience."

Highlights of the performance were the jewellery and womenswear categories which posted a sales increase of 79% and 123% respectively, compared to 1999. Sales of tickets for Dubai Duty Free's two promotions: The Finest Surprise Car Draw and Millennium Millionaire also increased last year. Both promotions have recently gone online providing web users worldwide the opportunity to enter.
