Record sales run on in Dubai

5-Feb-2003

Dubai Duty Free's (DDF) record-breaking sales run has continued into 2003, with January sales up 33% on the same month last year, at Dh108.4m ($30.1m)

Sales of electronics and gold were particularly impressive, up 50% and 34% respectively on January 2002.

Said DDF managing director Colm McLoughlin: "Achieving a new monthly record in sales for the first month of the year is extremely positive. We closed last year with record sales of Dhs1.1 billion (US$306 million) and were confident that sales would be steady in the opening weeks. "

McLoughlin added that Dubai Duty Free accounts for some 40% of total Middle East duty free sales and is now positioned fifth in the world in terms of airport duty free sales.
