Record day for Dubai anniversary
Dubai Duty Free achieved a new record for daily sales on its anniversary, taking $1.9m
Dubai Duty Free has marked its 20th anniversary with a new record for daily sales. The company celebrated the anniversary on December 20 with a 20% discount on all sales, helping it to achieve 35,733 sales transactions, worth $1.9m. The amount is to be donated to local and international charities, an unprecedented gesture in global duty-free.
Dubai Duty Free managing director Colm McLoughlin commented: "To mark our 20th anniversary, Dubai Duty Free decided to provide a number of local charities with their own reason to celebrate by making a donation to charity. We also wanted to say thank you to our customers by offering 20% discount on a wide range of products. The end result has been a fantastic day of sales of just under $2m, and one that will go down in the record books for some time to come."
President of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, added his congratulations: "These really are remarkable sales figures. I congratulate Dubai Duty Free on their successes over the past twenty years, and look forward to even greater success in the future."
Dubai Duty Free also took the opportunity to thank its original staff, 64 of whom are still with the company. McLoughlin and Dubai Duty Free general manager George Horan paid tribute to their contribution over the years. "It is a remarkable testament to the operation that so many of the original team continue to work for Dubai Duty Free," said McLoughlin. "On behalf of the entire team of 1,200 staff, I would like to thank the government of Dubai and particularly HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum for such continuing support and dedication."
