Record August traffic at BAA airports

The UK airports operator has reported its busiest August on record with 14.2m passengers

BAA's UK airports achieved 3.7% year-on-year growth in passenger traffic in August, despite the operational problems at national carrier BA. A total of 14.2m passengers used the airports, making it the busiest August on record.
 
European scheduled traffic was 8.3% higher than last August, North Atlantic activity was up by 4.5% and traffic on other long haul routes was up by 9%. European charter traffic was again the weakest sector with an 11.2% decline, following a 6.2% drop in July.
 
Stansted airport showed the highest increase at 9.4%, Heathrow traffic grew by 2%, Gatwick by 2.1%, Southampton was 8.4% up, Glasgow rose by 4.4%, Aberdeen by 7.5% and Edinburgh showed a 7.8% increase.
