Raven Fox, publisher of Duty-Free News International, Travel Retailer International and travelretailworld.com, has created a new Travelling Consumer Research division.

The service, in association with Travel Retailer International (TRI), is an adjunct to the company's well-established Trade Research operation.

"This is both the culmination of and follow-up to over two year's work into the buying behaviour of different travelling consumer groups," said TRI editor Adele Wolstenhulme.

Added Raven Fox  research manager Sandra Newman: "Information on consumer patterns, trends and thinking is the key to growing this industry. We'll be developing a combination of customised research for private clients, public material for use in TRI and DFNI and sometimes a combination of both. We also plan a series of syndicated surveys in which industry players can participate. We will be announcing these in the coming weeks."

Wolstenhulme said the new service will begin with a custom-made survey into spending by international travellers in US domestic and duty-free stores, developed in association with Allied Domecq. The first will be in the tourist hot spot of Las Vegas. Highlights will appear in TRI's June issue, which will be published at the first-ever Global Travel Retail Summit.

In a related development, TRI is pleased to announce a pioneering partnership with US-based shopping and tourism organisation Shop America Alliance. The two bodies will work closely together to study shopping behaviour by international travellers. Shop America Alliance executive director  Kathy Anderson will speak at June's Summit on how US domestic retailers are successfully targeting international shoppers.

Raven Fox managing director Martin Moodie said: "We are the only travel-retail publisher with an established research division. We plan to build on that base through this exciting new division which we will consolidate through key alliances around the world."
