The TFWA veteran will oversee membership development and research at the European trade body

Tax Free World Association vice-president conferences and research Thom Rankin has taken on a part-time role at the European Travel Retail Council (ETRC). The travel-retail veteran assumed the position of corporate affairs director on February 1, and will oversee the organisation's membership drive and research activities.

Rankin will collaborate with ETRC vice-president marketing and communications Jacques Parson on an action plan to increase representation across Europe.

ETRC president Frank O'Connell said: "We are very pleased to welcome Thom to the ETRC team, particularly as a key strategic objective of the council's 2006-8 marketing plan is achieving full representation from at least all EU countries and industry sectors within 3 years." He added that Rankin's appointment would enable ETRC to pursue further research projects following the launch of the council's sales index, measuring sales performance in travel-retail outlets across the EU.
