Regional retailer scoops three-year contract at Abu Dhabi International airport

Abu Dhabi Duty Free (ADDF) has awarded Pure Gold a three-year partnership contract to operate gold and jewellery stores in all three terminals at Abu Dhabi International airport (ADIA).

Pure Gold, which operates more than 60 stores across the UAE, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain, will manage the shops in T1 and T2 starting from April 1 and in T3 when it opens later this year.

ADDF general manager and Abu Dhabi Airports Company acting commercial director Dan Cappell said: “This partnership was chosen in light of our confidence in Pure Gold’s wealth of experience in the local and regional market along with our confidence in their ability to match the ever-growing and changing passenger demographic at the airport and their gold and jewellery purchases.”

Pure Gold founder and chairman Firoz Merchant said: “Pure Gold is honoured to be working in conjunction with ADDF to provide travellers with a wide range of gold, diamond, pearl, and coloured stone jewellery.”

The jewellery and gold contract award follows the recent signing of the electronics concession with Sharaf DG in December 2007. Sharaf started operations at ADIA on January 6.

ADDF reported that negotiations with other businesses across other key categories are now being assessed.
