An added 80,000sq ft to facility includes improved retail selection

Philadelphia International airport’s terminal F is set to receive a makeover, including an overhaul of the retail and food selection. The facility, which houses US Airways Express flights, first opened in 2001 and handled 2m passengers a year, but a rise in the number of daily flights and the use of larger aircraft have increased that figure to nearly 8m.

The redesign of the terminal will include an added 80,000sq ft (7,432sq m) of space and should to be completed by late 2010. Philadelphia International’s deputy aviation director Mark Gale said that the plan for terminal F will require an enlargement of the central area where three concourses intersect in order to provide more room for concessions. The project is expected to cost over $100m and would be financed by airlines that use the airport, US Airways and airport officials said.
