BAA Pittsburgh will pay less towards airport infrastructure improvements

Allegheny County airport authority and BAA Pittsburgh have agreed new terms for the Airmall operator's lease.

BAA Pittsburgh will pay more revenue to the Airport Authority from its retail facility Airmall. In exchange, the operator will pay $3.3m less than originally outlined towards airport infrastructure improvements. BAA Pittsburgh has paid $6.7m towards the improvements, but will not have to pay the remaining $3.3m stipulated when the operator's lease was extended by 10 years in 2002. BAA Pittsburgh
's lease is due to expire in 2017.

BAA Pittsburgh president Mark Knight said: "Our relationship with the airport authority has been a very positive one for both parties. As a facility that is internationally recognised as a model for airport retail, BAA Pittsburgh is committed to doing everything it takes to ensure continued success at Pittsburgh International."
