A new fashion zone at Milan Malpensa airport, to open in early May, will include a Gucci boutique and the first travel-retail outlet of Zegna-owned brand Agnona

SEA, the company that manages Milan Linate and Malpensa airports, will complete the revamp and expansion of one of its two biggest luxury fashion retail areas when Piazzetta at Malpensa is completed in early May with the opening of a new 120sq m (1,290sq ft) Gucci boutique and a 139sq m (1,495sq ft) shared Zegna/Agnona store. Passenger flows have also been changed to increase footfall through the luxury area.

The 770sq m (8,285sq ft) area (including corridors and the square itself) in the Schengen section of terminal one now hosts a large selection of luxury fashion brands including Samsonite, Trussardi, Bally, Montblanc, Gucci, Zegna/Agnona, Moreschi, Dufry Watches, Emporio Armani, Etro and Salvatore Ferragamo, the latter three managed by Dufry Group. SEA product manager for shops, food and beverage Marco Bresciani said: “We also have Bric’s and Paul & Shark units at the entrance of the satellite.”

This is Bally’s debut at Malpensa and Zegna’s 100sq m (1,076sq ft) boutique is the brand’s second—the company already operates a shop in the international T2. In total, Zegna now has eight stores at Italian airports: two at Malpensa, three in Rome, one at Milan Linate and Turin Caselle, and one shortly at Venice Marco Polo through McArthurGlen Luxury Retail’s new Collezioni concept, due to open in April. In Europe the brand has 25 locations. The 39sq m (419sq ft) Agnona womenswear and accessories store, owned by Zegna, is the only one in travel-retail.

Commenting on the changes, Bresciani said: “Piazzetta will become the centre of retail in T1. Based on the luxury offer we have created—which is both Italian and international—we expect strong turnover, especially as the entire flow of traffic now passes the shops. We also hope to keep passengers in the Piazzetta for as long as possible with an open bar in the middle of the space, but this has yet to be finalised.”

SEA is a joint-stock company controlled by the Municipality of Milan, which has an 84.56% shareholding.
