The enforced sale hands Campari control of Italy's leading whisky
Campari has boosted its presence in the whisky category after purchasing
Glen Grant from Pernod Ricard for €115m ($136.42m).
The sale, which was ordered by the European Commission to enable Pernod
Ricard's to acquire Allied Domecq, also includes two smaller whiskies: Old
Smuggler and Braemar, which have been bought for an additional €15m
($17.8m).
Pernod Ricard chairman and ceo Patrick Ricard commented: "The disposal of
Glen Grant, Old Smuggler and Braemar, following the sale of the Dunkin'
brands and our minority stake in Britvic, has enabled us to complete, within
a very short period of time, the disposal programme to which the company had
committed itself, and, to reduce its indebtedness."
Glen Grant, Italy¹s top-selling whisky and the world¹s third largest malt
with annual sales of 350,000 cases, gives Campari its first global whisky
brand. Campari also owns Cinzano, Juniper gin, Skyy vodka and 12 Ouzo.
