Paris tragedy puts terminals future in doubt
Yesterday's collapse at Charles de Gaulle airport's terminal 2E has cast a shadow over one of the industry's most ambitious projects in recent years
The tragedy at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport?s new terminal 2E on May 23, when six people were killed and three injured after a section of the roof collapsed onto passengers below, has put the future of CdG?s new facility in doubt. The terminal, which opened last summer, has been closed and flights redirected elsewhere.
Retail in T2E is operated by Société Distribution Aéroportuaire, the joint venture between airport authority Aéroports de Paris (AdP) and retailer Aelia. The partners are to meet shortly to discuss the future and an eventual re-opening of stores in T2E. French prime minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin has also promised a full investigation.
AdP has launched an enquiry into the causes of the tragedy, a process that is expected to take months.
