Serious doubts surround the future of Paraguay's first-ever airport duty-free contract after local reports that  the government has suspended the agreement recently made with local firm Bright Star Duty Free Enterprise.

According to Paraguayan newspaper "Diario ABC", the general controller of the government has issued an order suspending the contract from going ahead.

Bright Star was due to make its  duty-free debut early next year at Asuncion airport-the country's inaugural airport duty-free operation. The two stores were due to offer a range of products, including tobacco, liquor, beauty products, fashion accessories and electronics. A 100sq ft (9sq m) departures store and a 150sq ft (14sq m) arrivals store were set to be built.

Bright Star specialises in the distribution of beauty products at both wholesale and retail level. More details on this story will be posted on travelretailworld.com as they break, including reaction from Bright Star.
