Paradies secures Kansas City concession
Atlanta-based retailer The Paradies Shops has been confirmed as the operator of the speciality retail concession, originally awarded at Kansas City International airport several months ago.
Paradies was awarded the contract for 15 news / gifts and specialty retail stores over 10,000sq ft (929sq m) and three terminals but had its operations held up by a dispute involving its former DBE (Disadvantaged Enterprise Programme) partner, Creative Concessions. Another bidder the Hudson Group also registered a dispute, claiming the process was unfair. The Hudson Group said its bid of $4m more over the total term and option period of 10 years should have won it the contract.
Paradies had bid on the new contract with a different local DBE operator. Kansas City airport commercial development manager, Neil Maxfield, confirmed that Paradies had now been installed as the operator for a remaining term of 9 years and 3 months. The Paradies Shops executed the new contract as of February 1 2002.
