Paradies gains extension at Bradley airport
The board of directors of Hartford Bradley International airport in Connecticut, US, announced today that the Department of Transportation and The Paradies Shops have concluded negotiations for the expansion of news and gift shops in the airport's new terminal.
The new terms require Paradies to pay a greater percentage of sales (a minimum annual guarantee) throughout the term of the contract, which will expire in 2016. Paradies has been in operation at Bradley since 1986. When the new terminal and concourse open in March 2003, they will provide approximately double the amount of retail space. Last year Paradies stores there posted over $5.3m in sales.
The retail offer will include a Brooks Brothers store, two CNBC newsstands, two Travel Mart stores and a Heritage Booksellers. "We know that these new shops will be able to provide a higher level of customer service to the Bradley airport traveller," commented Lou Bottino, Paradies senior vice president-regions.
A New England Travel Mart will provide news and magazines, convenience items and fresh deli snacks and beverages. A Travel Mart will feature local, national and international newspapers, books and music. The Brooks Brothers outlet will offer the "best of the best" assortment of the brand's menswear and womenswear.
Heritage Booksellers was developed inhouse by Paradies. The concept is in operation at eight US airports: Detroit's new McNamara terminal, TF Green airport (Providence), Nashville International, Dayton International, Louisville International, Columbia Metropolitan airport, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International, Minneapolis-St Paul International and Knoxville McGhee Tyson airport.
The CNBC stores represent a further development of the recent partnership between broadcaster CNBC and The Paradies Shops (TRW 18/02/02). CNBC outlets have television airing CNBC Business Day programmes and sell a broad range of traditional news stand items as well as CNBC branded books, videos and consumer goods.
