Inflight concessionaire Duty Free World, which runs the inflight programmes onboard Mexicana and Avianca has won the full concession to operate inflight sales for Venezuelan airline Avensa. The contract was previously held by World Duty Free Inflight before its closure last year.

"They have been looking at a number of alternatives and we signed the contract this morning [Tuesday]. It is a full concession for three years," commented Duty Free World president Myra del Valle. She added that her company would do all that it did for other airlines from choosing and buying the offer to producing the brochure and inflight videos and opening a website for pre-order. The programme will be operational within 45 days.

"The airline may not be as big as Avianca or Mexicana," she concluded, "but this is an airline with huge potential. It has taken over the routes of Viasa and is adding further ones. And the government is examining it with a view to making it the national airline of Venezuela."
