The new optician concept offers eye examinations, custom-made glasses and professional advice
Copenhagen Kastrup airport has opened an Optical Studio outlet in terminal three. The new optician concept offers eye tests, contact lens checks and professional advice on which glasses or sunglasses to choose. The store specialises in making a personalised pair of glasses in just 15 minutes, and stocks products from brands such as Prada, Chanel, Lindberg, Versace, Bvlgari and Ray-Ban.
Optical Studio shop manager Gudjon Gumdundsson said: “Many people familiar with the optometry industry are surprised that we can produce a pair of glasses at the Optical Studio in just 15 minutes based on commonly used types of glasses. We can do that because we have a well-trained, professional team of employees, a large inventory of eyeglass lenses and a broad range of frames from all the well-known brands.”
Optician Kjartan Kristjansson created the Optical Studio concept in Iceland, where it has been refined over the past 10 years at Keflavik International airport. While common glasses can be made in 15 minutes, more sophisticated types take 5–7 days to make. The store can send the glasses by post to the passenger, or travellers can opt to collect their glasses the next time they pass through the airport.
Copenhagen Airports director of commercial affairs Henrik Busch added: “Time is important at an airport, and we focus on offering passengers a range of ways to fill their waiting time through practical and pleasant experiences. We are impressed by the Optical Studio’s professional concept and the success they have achieved in Iceland. It was therefore a natural step for us to offer Kjartan Kristjansson a location in our new international shopping street, where the shop’s famous brands fit well with the product ranges offered by other stores. The first pair of glasses sold were delivered to the customer at the gate before departure—that is good service.”
