The Swiss travel retailer has opened one of the biggest airport retail areas in North America and the first post-security duty-free stores, at Toronto Pearson airport
The Nuance Group has opened one of the biggest airport retail areas in North America at Toronto Pearson airport. The 11,000sq ft (1,022sq m) space will house three duty-free stores offering liquor, cosmetics, fragrances, confectionery, fashion accessories and souvenirs.
Toronto Pearson is the first airport in North America to feature post-security duty-free stores. The retailer allocated 4,230sq ft (393sq m) of space for stores located immediately after the security checkpoints, allowing passengers travelling to the US to buy duty-free products. The retailer regards Toronto as a test-bed for the concept, which it later plans to roll out to other airports.
The Nuance Group CEO North America Richard Rendek said: "The Nuance Group North America is changing the duty-free experience for its customers through renovations at Las Vegas, Houston, Denver and Fort Lauderdale and through our new store openings at Toronto, our largest operation. Our goal is to create ways for customers to experience our product offer through events and interactive displays.
"We train our staff to answer questions [on subjects] from duty-free allowances and product details to clarifying the rules on liquid restrictions. Another innovation will be the launch of US post-Customs duty-free, initially as a test concept at Toronto Pearson. We predict it will be a success as customers will welcome the simplicity of purchasing duty-free."
The retailer said an increase in space led to the introduction of new luxury lines including cosmetics from La Mer, Mac and Freeze 24, Lacoste, Michael Kors handbags, Davidoff cigars, The Macallan, Ballantine
s, Glenfiddich and 100-cask Chivas Royal Salute Scotch whiskies, and cognacs from Camus and Rémy Martin.Related Stories
