Airport group TBI has granted The Nuance Group a five-year extension at Cardiff airport with the possibility of further collaboration at other TBI-managed airports
The Nuance Group has secured a five-year extension to its retail contract at the UK's Cardiff International airport until 2012. Airport authority TBI—owned by Spanish group Abertis—will also enter discussions with Nuance regarding collaboration at other TBI-managed airports. The extension at Cardiff and the announcement of a new "partnership approach" signals a resolution to the dispute between retailer and landlord over the early termination of Nuance's Belfast International airport concession, awarded to rival Aelia in October 2004 (DFNI November 1 2004). The conflict intensified when Nuance took TBI to court, claiming the airport authority had terminated the retailer's five-year contract at Belfast airport unjustly.
The Nuance Group president and CEO Roberto Graziani said: "Our relationship with TBI is a good example of what can be achieved if two parties meet with the clear intention of finding a win-win solution. In the course of our discussions it has become clear that we share a common view on what airport retailing should be about. This has led us to adopt a partnership approach which we expect will produce outstanding opportunities for the future."
TBI chairman Miguel Puig added: "We are delighted with the new spirit of cooperation with Nuance, and we look forward to a long and fruitful working relationship."
In addition to Cardiff and Belfast International, TBI operates London Luton airport, Stockholm Skavsta, Orlando Sanford and three airports in Bolivia.
