Nuance extends stay at Melbourne
The Nuance Group has been awarded an extension to its duty-free contract at Australia's Melbourne International airport. The new deal ensures the operator, which began trading at Melbourne following Swissair's acquisition of Allders International in 1997, will continue running retail at the airport until 2010.
By 2003, Nuance will run outlets spanning 2,500sq m (26,900sq ft) of retail space at Melbourne, a figure that is expected to grow to 3,700sq m (39,800sq ft) by the end of the new contract. The operator is proposing to create an airside MegaStore featuring interactive areas in the cosmetics and electronics corners.
Commenting on the new deal, Melbourne Airport retail manager Gilly Richmond said: "The Nuance Group has an intrinsic understanding of our customers, and its proposal shows innovation in store design. We look forward to continuing our already successful working relationship with them."
Nuance ceo Asia/Pacific John Moore added: "We are thrilled to be able to put our innovative ideas into practice at Melbourne, a leading airport in international passenger growth."
Melbourne welcomes the Commonwealth Games in 2006, an event that Nuance hopes to capitalise on as airport facilities are developed.
