The retailer has named Thomas Friberg as its new general manager in the country, effective from June 1

The Nuance Group has appointed Thomas Friberg as general manager of its business in Sweden, where its contract to run retail at the country's airports was recently extended. Friberg joins from Swedish hardware and DIY chain COOP/Bygg & Trädgård.

Nuance CEO Europe Jean-Paul Bonnel said: "I am pleased to have Thomas and his great experience in Swedish retail on board. His knowledge will benefit both our people and our operation in Sweden, where we are currently implementing an important refurbishment programme."

In January Swedish airport authority Luftsfartsverket announced it had extended Nuance's contract at 14 of the country's airports to 2010.

Friberg began his career with Swedish retailer Gröna Konsum, later moving to COOP Forum, the country's biggest retail chain. As sales manager he was responsible for 115 stores generating SKr3bn ($390m) in turnover.

At Nuance he replaces Ann-Marie Silokangas, who has left the company.
