The Nuance Group and Melbourne Airport have settled their legal dispute over contract terms out of court
The Nuance Group has announced that its legal dispute with Melbourne airport has been resolved in an out of court settlement. The dispute arose over conflicting interpretations of Nuance's retail contract at the location. Nuance's Melbourne airport concession, which it runs under the Downtown Duty Free fascia, began in 2002 and will now run until 2010.The Nuance Group Australia/New Zealand CEO Christian Strang said: "After some months of intense dialogue we have reached an equitable solution that will allow us back to effective retailing immediately. [We are] pleased with the outcome and confident that, working with Melbourne Airport, the duty-free operations will go from strength to strength."
Nuance is now planning a significant redevelopment of its existing shops in Melbourne "in the very near future," continued Strang.
Melbourne Airport chief executive Chris Barlow said: "We have moved on from our disagreement and I look forward to working constructively with Nuance. Since 1998 Melbourne has enjoyed the best international passenger growth of the big four Australian airports. Now we can work with Nuance to improve the duty-free offer by focusing on our passengers, suppliers and other stakeholders and get on with business."
