Nuance-Watson wins Singapore T1 contract
As predicted in Duty-Free News International February 1 issue, the Nuance-Watson joint venture has been awarded the beauty concession for Singapore Changi terminal 1. The three-year contract will commence on April 1 and covers six outlets with a total sales area of 976sq m (10,500sq ft). Nuance-Watson now holds a monopoly on sales of fragrances and cosmetics at Changi, having won the T2 contract covering eight outlets last Summer. Previous incumbent and rival bidder Weitnauer Singapore has now lost both its lucrative beauty concessions at the location. The other bidders for the T1 business were DFS Group and Alpha-SUTL.

Of the six T1 outlets to be operated by Nuance-Watson, one is located landside with three in departures and two in arrivals. The company's financial bid was the highest of the four contenders, offering $45.3m over three years plus a Passenger Acquisition Incentive Bonus, guaranteeing landlord Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore added payments if passenger numbers rise above a certain level.

The Nuance Group president and ceo, Peter Petersen, commented: "We are proud that having won the perfumes and cosmetics concession for terminal 2 as recently as last year, we can now expand our operation to terminal 1. Atttractive airports need attractive retail, and Nuance can look back on a successful history of teaming up with both airports and brand owners for exciting new retail concepts."
- Full reaction and analysis will appear in the next issue of Duty-Free News International.
