A seminar on charter airlines provided insights into an interesting sales channel, representing 11% of total duty-free sales in the region

The Nordic Travel Retail Group (NTRG) has hosted a meeting with suppliers, airport authorities and operators from all over the region to discuss the potential of charter airlines to the duty-free business. According to the group, travel-retail sales on board charter flights represent over 11% of total sales in Scandinavia.

Speakers at the event, which included MyTravel Denmark sales and marketing director Jan Vendelbo and SAS Denmark agent and group sales director Thomas Elgaard, said charter tourism has been excellent at following the developments in the market. They also claimed that travellers now prefer several short trips instead of a main family holiday a year, and that the focus in the future will be on “adventures and nature”.

NTRG chairman Erik Thomsen said: “It was very positive that 38 people turned up for the meeting and the speakers were sharing many interesting figures and facts with the members during the meeting, as well as thoughts of what the future will look like.”
