Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd recorded a 20.3% rise in non-aeronautical revenue in the first half of the year

Airport operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has reported a 16% increase in revenue to RM782m ($230.4m) in the six months ending June 30 2008 compared with the previous corresponding period. Gross profits were up by more than 20% to RM210.8m ($62.1m).

The company attributed the good performance to “an increase in total passenger movements, which contributed to stronger commercial sales”. Non-aeronautical revenue rose by 20.3%, with MAHB’s own retail operations recording an increase of 6% and revenue from concessions and advertising up by 37.5% to RM159m ($46.9m).

MAHB managing director Seri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid said the company’s good performance was due to improved contributions from its airport and non-airport operations. “Our total revenue growth was almost double that of overall passenger traffic growth of 8% for the first six months of 2008,” he added.
