Newcastle airport appoints commercial director

Newcastle International airport has appointed retail specialist Nick Holder to the newly created post of commercial director.

Holder has more than 20 years' experience in retailing with Marks and Spencer, Burton Group (Arcadia), WH Smith and Etam. His most recent senior management role was with WH Smith as head of retail operations, between May 1997 and August 2000.

The Newcastle airport role is regarded as a key position since the airport is at a critical stage in its development, following the formation last year of a strategic partnership with Copenhagen Airports (which has a 49% stake). Holder's task will be to develop a commercial strategy and maximise potential in all areas of non-aeronautical commercial activity.
