The retail expansion is part of the new link between terminals D and E at Philadelphia International airport

Several new retail and food and beverage outlets have opened at Philadelphia International airport as part of the opening of a link between terminals D and E, which account for one-quarter of the airport’s passengers. The new retail concessions include Borders, Brookstone, Crocs, InMotion Entertainment, Lids/Lids Kids, Sunglass Hut, Taxco Sterling and Techshowcase. The link also features a Vino Volo wine bar.

The link between terminals D and E also includes new security screening lanes and permanent artwork installations on the escalator walls in the D/E ticketing area. Carriers operating out of the two terminals include Delta Air Lines, Air Canada, United Airlines and Continental Airlines.

The opening of the new area at Philadelphia International marks the first phase of a $300m expansion project that will add a total of 220,000sq ft (20,446sq m) to the terminal complex.

Philadelphia deputy mayor, transportation and utilities Rina Cutler said: “The terminal D/E link represents the achievement of another milestone towards our goal of providing the best airport experience to our customers. The new and expanded checkpoint allows passengers to get through the screening process faster so they aren’t stressed about long queues, and they have time to relax, shop or get something to eat before their flight.”
