New joint venture to oversee retail at Arlanda's North terminal
Schiphol Group joins forces with the local airport authority under a 15-year contract to oversee retail at Arlanda's North terminal
Schiphol Group and Stockholm Arlanda airport authority Luftfartsverket have entered a joint venture to manage retail at Arlanda's North terminal. According to a statement released by Schiphol Group, the companies will operate retail, catering and accommodation at the facility?including the new Central terminal extension due to open next month?in a 15-year partnership, with Schiphol taking a 40% share in revenue and the remainder owned by Luftfartsverket. Schiphol will focus on concept development, product selection and pricing policy as well as marketing and promotions.
Arlanda's North terminal has gained a new area to be known as the Central terminal, which will be opened on December 17. A spokesperson for Schiphol Group told TRW the new venture would initially focus on the retail opportunities within the new space, which will include ten shops, four food and beverage outlets and a currency exchange facility, all within one retail cluster. "We'll be bringing new retail concepts to Arlanda over the course of the 15-year contract in a bid to make the airport's retail operation more successful," the spokesman said. "And we will be overseeing duty-free as well as landside retail." Arlanda's main duty-free concession is run by The Nuance Group.
The North terminal serves almost all of Arlanda's international passengers and hosts several major European airlines as well as SAS and its alliance partners. Over 8.8m passengers passed through the terminal last year.
