New Dublin terminal for low-cost airlines?

The Irish government has requested that Aer Rianta provide a designated terminal at Dublin airport for low-cost airlines, local reports said today.

The new area is supposed to be open for the 2003 season and will boost the business of carriers such as Ryanair, which has been calling for its own terminal for several years. Ryanair and other airlines wanted a privately-operated facility to cater for their flights, citing the high costs of flying to and from Dublin.

The government hopes that the new facility will encourage more low-cost flights to Ireland and boost tourism.

Meanwhile, Aer Rianta has almost completed its new retail venture "The Street" at Dublin airport. Most stores are in place, and several new beauty areas will open in the coming weeks, director retail Frank O'Connell told TRW.

The area will officially open in March.
