The airport will open the 5,000sq m mall next month as it unveils the fruits of an intensive reconstruction of the terminal's south wing

Narita International Airport Corp is to unveil its new retail offer at terminal one's reconstructed south wing on June 2, the company has revealed. The new 5,000sq m area – named Narita Nakamise – will feature 36 stores with 3,500sq m of duty-free retail and catering outlets. It will house nine luxury boutiques from companies including Hermes, Cartier, Bvlgari, Coach and Salvatore Ferragamo, of which the airport company's retail subsidiary NAA Retailing – a join venture between the airport operator and JATCo - will run four.

NIAC manager airport business headquarters Toshiaki Kanzaki told delegates at the GATE ONE conference in Singapore that while the new T1 retail area would have a Japanese feel, with rice paper lanterns adding to the effect, its other big project – terminal two, zone D – would aim for a more international ambience. The new area is expected to open in Spring 2007 and will feature over 2,900sq m of concession space, with 680sq m allocated to duty-free goods, 900sq m for brand boutiques and the remainder for a large food and beverage offer.
