UK charter airline MyTravel has begun the tender process for the carrier's inflight retail contract, currently held by British Airways. The deadline for bids passed on September 12 and MyTravel inflight product development manager Christine Bowie expressed satisfaction at the interest shown from the industry.
?The companies we requested to bid have done so,? she told TRW. ?We now have a month to measure creativity, margins and performance, and we may draw up a shortlist of companies for further consideration. We should be making a decision a month from now.?
The MyTravel contract has been a crucial part of British Airways' concession business since the operator decided to focus on its UK clients, and it is expected to bid for the contract. The tender could also provide leading international concessionaires Inflight Sales Group, Duty Free Air and Ship Supply and Duty Free World with an entry into the European inflight market.
According to The Airline Book 2003/4, MyTravel carried 6.16m international passengers in 2002, placing it eighth in the list of the world's top charter airlines by passenger volume.
