The papal visit and soccer World Cup boosted sales for arport retailer Eurotrade, which was the airport’s second-highest earning subsidiary last year

Munich airport authority Flughafen München has reported that is retail subsidiary Eurotrade generated sales of €120.9m ($169.7m) in 2006, up 16.8% on the previous year’s results. The company said that sales of souvenirs were particularly strong as a result of the pope’s visit to Bavaria and the soccer World Cup finals in Germany.

Eurotrade reported that it had a busy year, renovating and remodelling shops in terminal two to respond to changes in passenger flow. The authority also praised the way that Eurotrade had responded to tightened security restrictions at the airport. “Eurotrade responded flexibly and at short notice to the need for tighter security checks on passengers and their hand luggage by revising its retail strategy and by closing and relocating stores,” the airport said.
