International flights at Gwangju International airport will be relocated to Muan

The new Muan International airport in the South Jeolla province of South Korea is scheduled to open on November 8. The airport will operate eight domestic and 44 overseas flights a week to China, Taiwan and Japan, including services that previously departed from Gwangju International airport.

According to Korea Times, South Korea’s minister of construction and transportation Lee Yong-seop said the government’s objective to relocate international flights from Gwangju to the new airport, initially planned 10 years ago, remains unchanged despite protests from local residents and businesses. He added that the current system will be maintained until the highway linking Gwangju and Muan, due to open around June 2008, is completed.
