Mounib named MEDFA president
Abu Dhabi Airport Catering & Duty Free managing director Mohammed Mounib has been named president of the Middle East Duty Free Association (MEDFA) for a two-year term, effective January 1
The move came at yesterday's board meeting in Dubai, when a new board was also elected.
Colm McLoughlin (Dubai Duty Free) was named vice-president, Anthony Chalhoub (Habchi & Chalhoub) was elected secretary and Jan Baljet (Weitnauer Tuxedo) was elected treasurer.
The other board members are John Sime (Emirates), outgoing president John Sutcliffe (Aer Rianta International-Middle East), Tariq Hamila (Societe Hamila pour le Commerce et l'Industrie), Kamal Toulan (International Travel Retail Trading Agencies), Andrew Ford (TFWA) and Miguel Wesolowski (Aldeasa Jordan).
The election was announced as day two of the MEDFA conference drew to a close.
Today's sessions included a research presentation on the Arab young consumer; a panel discussion on confectionery; a lively presentation on how the inflight market needs to change to prosper from Emirates Airlines duty-free manager John Sime in which he suggested listing fees be abolished; a contribution on Sydney airport from head of retail Bob McFadyen and an insight into the Saudi market.
A full report will appear in a forthcoming issue of DFNI.
