New airport commercial space, including Domodedovo Plaza, set to open in mid-2007
Moscow Domodedovo airport authority East Line Group expects to call tenders for new landside retail and airside duty-free space in September this year. The space is part of Domodedovo's terminal development, which will extend the airport's commercial areas to 15,000sq m (161,000sq ft).
Domodedovo Plaza is a 10,000sq m (108,000sq ft) landside complex aimed at Russian travellers and local residents. Expansion of the airside duty-free area will run concurrently with the Plaza development.
East Line Group head of marketing and sales Leonard Blinov told ravenfox.com: "Because of some delays in construction, Domodedovo Plaza is likely to open in mid-2007 as opposed to 2006," he said. "If we are to comply with corporate law we have to launch tenders nine months before the new space is implemented, which means we'll probably go to market in September 2006."
He explained that the additional duty-free space would include a general merchandise offer plus some boutique and concept stores.
"We will add at least 500sq m (5,400sq ft) to the existing 1,000sq m (10,080sq ft) in duty-free," said Blinov. "But we hope to add as much as 1,000sq m, if we can remove one security line and replace some business lounges."
