Alpha Airport Shopping's new mobile merchandising unit is "already delivering positive results"

Alpha has opened a mobile merchandising unit at Newcastle airport in the hope of targeting passengers more effectively during key sale periods. For its launch at Easter, the unit was placed in the new extension to the airside departure lounge, opposite the children's play area. It was stocked with a range of toys and games to appeal to families travelling through the airport during the Easter holiday.

The unit will change its location and product range to suit the passenger profile of the airport on a monthly basis. The company is also considering using the unit to trial Newcastle United merchandise.

Designed to be manned by one member of staff, the mobile store is nearly five metres long when open, has built-in shelves, forward hanging arms and hooks to enable a wide range of merchandise to be displayed.

Newcastle airport AAS general manager Harvie Harrington said: "Our summer season officially starts on May 1 but the unit is already delivering very positive results."
