Middle East Exclusive forecasts growth in 2004
Despite the low-key first year for the Middle East Exclusive exhibition, which concluded on December 3 in Dubai, the organisers are forecasting growth of 20-30% in exhibitor numbers in 2004
Organiser Channels Exhibitions managing director Justin Boutros said: "We pressed ahead this year despite all the problems of early 2003, with war and SARS. We restricted numbers this year and were strict on who entered. It was mainly duty-free buyers, and we were keen to have quality rather than quantity, but next year we'll spend more time targeting hotels and downtown store operators of luxury goods outlets. With the growth of Dubai as a destination, we believe the event has a bright future. It also provides an opportunity for buyers to see new local brands that can give their stores more of an Arabic flavour."
Some exhibitors complained about the numbers of retailers who attended, although others said they had found new business.
Boutros added: "We've seen many brands who were not exhibitors who used this event to meet buyers. We hope many of these will join up next year. ALready 80% of exhibitors have agreed to return. The industry needs to come together to make it a sustained success." He said in future there would be more social events linked to the exhibition.
Next year's show will be held on November 29 to December 1.
