Miami International Airport gifts and sports retailer Sirgany/Century is to lay off 168 retail staff

Miami International Airport (MIA) joint-venture retailer Sirgany/Century has stated it will be laying off 168 retail staff. Sirgany operates MIA's seventeen newsstands and the airport's three Florida Shops, which sell gifts unique to the state, such as crates of oranges and stone crabs packed in dry ice. The company also manages six regular gift shops, including a sports clothing store and a high-end novelty emporium.

The move comes months after the company cut staff wages. The layoff date has been given as October 11.
